INFORMATION AT NO OBLIGATION
The traces of over a thousand years of history can be seen all around León, with gems from almost all artistic periods, including the Roman city walls, the Roman archaeological site of Lancia, the “Sistine Chapel” of the Romanesque period in the Basilica of San Isidoro, the stained glass windows in León’s GOTHIC CATHEDRAL and the Botines House designed by the Catalonian architect, Antoni Gaudí.
The city also hosts other historic buildings such as the Sierra Pambley Foundation, León Museum, the Vela Zanetti Foundation, the Condes de Luna Palace (which currently houses the headquarters of the University of Washington in León) and the Roman León Interpretation Centre.
Of particular interest is the Castile and León Museum of Contemporary Art (the MUSAC), which won the Mies van der Rohe Award for Architecture, the most prestigious prize in this field.
In well-deserved recognition of the city’s succulent cuisine, León has been named Gastronomic Capital of Spain 2018. Both the city and the province host a wide variety of affordable restaurants. Perhaps the city’s most distinctive gastronomic feature is the custom of eating tapas, but it is also notable for both its traditional and creative cuisine served in a multitude of restaurants.
All the major Spanish fashion brands such as ZARA, SPRINGFIELD and MANGO can be found in León, as well as Spain’s most famous department store, EL CORTE INGLÉS.
León offers a host of attractive shopping opportunities: clothing, footwear, accessories, decor and furniture are all on sale in the city centre and in shopping malls.
Leon has an exciting and varied programme of cultural events and activities throughout the year that includes concerts, festivals, talks, cinema, theatre, poetry readings and book presentations, as well as museum exhibitions and events. At THINK IN SPANISH, those that are of most interest to our students are included on our courses.
León is the ideal city for your Spanish course
