The city of León has been named Gastronomic Capital of Spain 2018
A well-deserved accolade. For decades, LEÓN has been famous for its tapas. The city has numerous bars and restaurants, and for many years, one of the most popular social activities among residents and visitors alike has been to stroll around the renowned Barrio Húmedo and Barrio Romántico areas sampling the tapas that accompany their wine or beer. Small portions of ham, cheese, Russian salad, etc., are served with any drink, and provide a light evening meal for friends who meet up at about 8 pm for a chat and a few glasses of beer or good Rioja, Prieto Picudo or Ribera del Duero wine.
León’s candidacy, championed among others by the renowned Basque chef Juan Mari Arzak, ran under the banner of “León, Food for Kings”. A fitting slogan indeed for a city that was once the capital of the first Kingdom of Spain, the Kingdom of León, as well as being the birthplace of illustrious kings and the cradle of parliamentarism, a necessary development in the construction of Spain, the oldest nation in Europe.
León restaurants offer an extremely varied choice covering the entire spectrum from traditional León dishes (cured beef called CECINA, sweetbreads, beef) served in time-honoured restaurants such as the Racimo de Oro or Casa Rafa, to the creative cuisine served at LAV, BEECOOK and COCINANDOS.
We organise dinners for our students at these restaurants, where they can discuss a variety of topics in Spanish over delicious meals. They learn at the same time as discovering, enjoying and widening their culinary experience.
Our students come here to improve and expand their knowledge of Spanish language and culture, but also to savour the magical experience of cultural, gastronomic and social tourism.
We are experts in organising effective immersion learning, and offer you an unforgettable experience of at least two weeks in one of the safest, most beautiful, welcoming, historic, affordable and varied provinces in Spain.
